ClassificationThe new Nordic star requirements have been introduced, with a transition period up to 2012. This means that there will be some discrepancies during this period. So check which symbol is listed under each enterprise, in addition to the number of stars.

The Campsite

The stars are awarded from 1 to 5 in both categories and are adjudged independently.This means that a five star camp site could have a 1 star cabin, and vice versa.

The Campsite

Someone in charge must be present who is responsible for day-to-day supervision.
There must be a message board listing opening hours, classification, house rules, fire safety, prices and emergency phone numbers.
Sanitary facilities must be indoors.
Showers and sinks must have hot and cold water.
All buildings must be well lighted.
There must be access to indoor cooking facilities.
The entranceway must be clearly marked, with signs clearly indicating opening hours.
All roads on the property must have level paving, well-maintained and with good load bearing capacity.

A first-aid kit must be available.
The buildings, both inside and out, and the area in general must be kept clean and well-maintained.

In addition to the above, the following are required:
There must be a map indicating the location of fire extinguishers.
There must be a clearly marked, centrally located reception area.

There must be on-site supervision day and night.
An overview must be available of activities, events and sights in the vicinity.
The kitchen must be in a separate room, with table and chairs.
Shopping must be available in the immediate vicinity.
The site’s total area must be enclosed, to restrict access by trespassers.
There must be a clearly numbered division of the lots.
There must be a separate area for tents with table and seating, bike stand and access to the mains.
The entranceway must be blocked between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
There must be lighting throughout the whole area.

In addition to the above, the following are required:
The reception area must be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
There must be a store or kiosk on site.
It must be possible to purchase meals, or have meals served, within a 3-km radius.
Waste containers must be placed at covered refuse sites.

The reception (front desk) must be in a separate room, simply furnished.
There must be a dedicated TV room.
There must be a separate sitting room for children.
There must be a store on site.
There must be a place to eat within a max. 1-km radius.
