SPECIAL
TRAFFIC RULES
Driving lights, warning triangle and hazard lights:
Dipped headlights are compulsory 24 hours a day.
All cars must be equipped with a warning triangle and hazard
lights.
Seat belts: Seat belts are compulsory. This also applies to
the back seat if seat belts are fitted there.
Child safety: Children under 4 must have their own seat or
safety
restraint (babies in a cot). Children over 4 years can use
normal seat.
Caravan
stipulations: No-one is allowed in the caravan when
it is
being towed. Remember to shut off the main propane gas tap
in the
caravan because of the danger of explosion. On board ferries
the main propane gas tap must always be closed.
Caravan mirrors are compulsory. Caravan mirrors must be removed
when the caravan is not linked to the car.
Tyre tread depth: There must be a minimum
of 1.6 mm tread on
summer tyres and a minimum of 3.0 mm on winter tyres.
Winter tyres: You can drive with winter tyres
with or without studs.
All-year tyres can also be used. Use of studded tyres is allowed
from
1 November to the first Monday after Easter. Studded tyres
may also be used outside these periods if the weather and
road surface conditions make it necessary. In Nordland, Troms
and Finnmark studded tyres are allowed during the period 15
October to 1 May. If studded tyres are fitted to a car weighing
under 3.5 tonnes, they must be fitted to all four wheels.
Snow chains: A vehicle of 3.5 tonnes or more
must carry snow chains if ice or snow is expected on the road.
These snow chains must fit the vehicle's wheels.
Alcohol and other intoxicating or tranquillising medication:
Driving motor vehicles while under the influence of alcohol
or medication is not permitted. Greater concentration of alcohol
in the blood than 2 milligrams per millilitre is automatically
regarded as intoxication.
Picnic spots: These are meant for picnics,
short stays and public
conveniences. Keep picnic spots tidy. Campsites are provided
for camping.
Mountain passes: When going over mountain
passes there are often very long downhill stretches, when
brakes may overheat. To avoid this, drive in a low gear (the
gear you would use if you were driving up the slope), This
means you will not have to brake so hard and that brakes will
not heat up so quickly. When driving up steep slopes the car
is required to work hard. Keep an eye on the car's temperature
gauge, because the car can quickly overheat.
